Know your area: Find out if you live in a hurricane evacuation area by contacting your local government/emergency management office.
Write or review your Family Emergency Plan: Sit down with your family or close friends and decide how you will get in contact with each other, where you will go, and what you will do in an emergency. Keep a copy of this plan in your emergency supplies kit or another safe place where you can access it in the event of a disaster.
Prepare an Emergency Kit: Put together an emergency. Basic essentials such as a first aid kit and survival kit can go a long way.
Check all equipment: Generators, storm shutters, flashlights, ect.
Prepare for the long wait: Hurricanes usually last a couple of hours to days. Sometimes the after affects could last weeks. Be sure to have an abundance of dry food storage, and drinking water that will last up to two weeks.
